Sebastopol council appoints Fernandez to planning commission

Evert Fernandez, chairman of the Sebastopol Community Development Agency the past four years, was appointed by the City Council on Tuesday to the city planning commission.

Fernandez is an adviser with the Santa Rosa Junior College's Redwood Empire Small Business Development Center and a founding member of the Sonoma County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

The planning commission term became vacant when commissioner Patrick Slayter was elected in November to the City Council.

Fernandez was among five candidates that included businesswoman Maureen Shea, who ran unsuccessfully for the City Council in November.

The council also reappointed Zachary Douch to the city's Design Review Board and appointed Peter Schurch who was an alternate, as a regular board member.

The council also selected Santa Rosa architect Lindsay Massey as the alternate member to the board.
