On Tuesday the Sebastopol Senior Center is holding a birthday bash for anyone born in April. Starting at 12:30 p.m. Peter Axtell will provide music and there will be free dessert. Prior to the birthday celebration at noon there is a lunch that is $4. The center is at 267 N. High St. Make reservations for it at 829-2440.
On Wednesday the tallships arrive at Spud Point Marina in Bodega Bay. The Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain will give tours over the next five days. Exact ETA unknown yet – it depends on tides and winds. Call the marina at 875-3535 for more information.
On Thursday Sebastopol Center for the Arts will have a reading of favorite poems hosted by larry Robinson and Warren Arnold. These are poems that were selected by the public, that were famous or not famous, not written by the person who sent them in or by their relatives, but that had great significance. The reading is at 7 p.m. and is free. The center is at 6780 Depot St. For more information contact Larry Robinson at email@example.com.
Thursday Sebastopol will launch Cittaslow, a program for “slow tourism”. There will be wine and appetizers at Guayaki from7 to 9 p.m. as representatives explain the Cittaslow concept. Guayaki is at 6782 Sebastopol Ave. in Sebastopol.
On Friday it’s First Friday Live night at the Sebastopol Community Cultural Center with a Beatles Sing-Along. The Love Choir will help get the vocal chords going. Doors open at 6 p.m. with a barbecue from Bar-B-Q Bistro. Desserts, wine and beer will also be on sale. Tickets at the door are $10, under 18 $5. www.seb.org for more information.
Friday in Bodega Bay it’s a Vodka and Caviar Tasting fundraiser for the Fisherman’s Festival, and a celebration of the Russian arrival bicentennial at the Bodega Harbour Yacht Club from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $50. Call 875-3513, ext. 27 for reservations. The Yacht Club is at 565 Smith Brothers Rd. in Bodega Bay.
There’s a dance party with Dgiin, a popular West County band, Saturday at Wischemann Hall at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door. The hall is at 465 Morris St. in Sebastopol. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
There are two lectures at Tides Wharf about Russians in Sonoma County. One is at 1 p.m. the other at 2 p.m. In addition there will be an exhibit of historical Russian maps, charts, navigational equipment, and replicas of Russian longboats will be at the dock and sailors in period costume will explain how the boats work.
At 7 p.m. at the Bodega Bay Grange it’s all Russia. The Russian Collection Performing Arts Ensemble will perform Russian singing and dancing.
