Mushroom workshop this Saturday

Friday, November 16th, 2012 | Posted by | no responses

This Saturday, Nov. 17, you can learn to be a mushroom farmer . At a spot overlooking the Laguna de Santa Rosa an expert will give a workshop on growing oyster mushrooms between 2 and 4:30 p.m. Attendees will make their own mushroom “kits” by steaming straw and inoculating it with prepared mushroom spawn. The workshop will teach how to care for the growing mycelium and in three to four weeks you will harvest a crop of mushrooms just in time for a holiday meal. You are asked to bring clothes that can get dirty and a sack lunch (cold beverages will be provided. The cost of the workshop is $30. You must reserve a space. To do so email newcarpati@yahoo.com or call Steve Schwartz 217-5603. The workshop will be at 4241 Bartleson Road off Highway 116 in Sebastopol. Prepared mushroom kits will be on sale to the public at the Sebastopol Farmers Market Sunday, Nov. 18.
