A suspected drunken driver careened into a car carrying Swiss tourists on

Highway 1 near Valley Ford on Wednesday afternoon, injuring at least four

people, including himself, the CHP said.

Witnesses said David S. Macias, 28, of Santa Rosa was ''driving recklessly,

passing, speeding, tailgating'' before he passed one car, returned to his lane

and slammed into the back of the tourists, Officer Wayne Ziese said.

The three people inside were all injured and one was ejected, the CHP said.

Their rental car was totaled.

The driver, Jeane Zoller, 50, and a passenger, Genevieve Zoller were

treated at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and released.

A third passenger, Stephanie Zoller, suffered major injuries and was

admitted to Memorial. She was listed in stable condition, a nursing supervisor

said.

Macias, who was in critical condition, was arrested on suspicion of felony

drunken driving, the CHP said.

The accident occurred about a mile and a half north of Valley Ford Road.
