The List: 3 rainy day spots
Three spots to spend a rainy Saturday afternoon.
1. Sebastopol Library. The newly remodeled library at the corner of Bodega Avenue and High Street offers comfy chairs, computers galore, a community jig saw puzzle and, believe it or not, sometimes entertainment. Visiting gardeners, singers and musicians use the meeting room as a venue for their shows on some Saturday afternoons. And it’s all free.
2. Pony Espresso Coffee Shop. For the price of a good cup of joe, Debbie Martinez and her husband Jim offer a cozy spot for locals to discuss politics, religion and that most controversial of subjects, the weather. If you are feeling at all down, prepare to spill all your troubles onto Mama Debbie, who has nurtured just about everyone in the west county. Next to Bill’s Farm Basket at 10315 Bodega Hwy., between Sebastopol and Freestone.
3. The Rialto Theater. Even if you have seen all the blockbusters, the Rialto always has interesting offbeat films or classics, with $7.50 matinee specials and café tables and chairs in the lobby. Rumor has it that “small plate” tapas may also be served in the future. If they could only get a beer and wine license it would be the perfect date spot, as well as a great way to ease one’s way through a rainy afternoon. 6868 McKinley St., Sebastopol.
